Why It's Important that You Get the Right Amount of B Vitamins

By:

Vitamins and minerals are essential because they sustain the human body in its various daily activities and the best way to source them is by eating a healthy, balanced diet. Different people have different dietary requirements but everybody needs vitamins to maintain good health and avoid diseases. Vitamins have long been in existence and providing mankind with health benefits. They may not have known vitamins as we do now but even the ancient people knew to eat good, healthy foods.

The body needs most of the vitamins but in varying amounts, some more than the others. Some vitamins are classified according to letters like A, B, C, D, E, and K and the body has a specific use for each one. Vitamins generally provide direct health benefits although there are some that are needed to help in the absorption process of the other vitamins.

Among the different types of vitamins, those falling under the B group are the most chemically distinct yet they all work on cell metabolism. While they were once thought to be a single vitamin, scientists were able to research into them further and isolated their biochemical functions. These vitamins have since been re-classified into eight different vitamins in the B series: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, and B12.

Deficiencies of vitamins usually result in a number of conditions or disorders. And if it is the B vitamins that a person lacks, most apparent effects include loss of weight, physical weakness, stress, diarrhea, dementia, and anemia among others. As the B vitamins often work together to provide health benefits to the body, any deficiency should be immediately corrected. Most of these vitamins need to be replenished daily to ensure good health.

Together, the B vitamins provide support and increase the body’s metabolism, improve skin and muscle tone, and enhance the functions of the immune and nervous systems. They are also needed in combating the symptoms of stress and depression. With their many health benefits, the B vitamins have proven themselves indispensable in maintaining good health. In fact, they are among the most essential vitamins that the human body needs. Of course, the other vitamins are also important and must be sourced from the foods one eats. Therefore, see to it that your daily diet is complete and balanced to make sure that you are taking in all the vitamins required for the normal functioning of your body.

There are many natural sources of the B vitamins but it is still possible for you to be deficient in one or more of the B vitamin variants. In this case, it is advisable to take dietary supplements that can supply the B vitamin requirements of your body. By now you should already be aware of the ill effects of lacking Vitamin B in your bodily system. Increase your intake of the B vitamins or take the B-complex vitamins and take advantage of the extra energy they can give and avoid the many health problems associated with their deficiency.
